"Professional Widow" was the fourth music video released for the album Boys for Pele. It has to be noted the single didn’t feature the album version but a remix by DJ Armand van Helden, which became infamous as it ranked pretty high in music charts worldwide. The video is basically a compilation of most of the previous music videos of Tori ("Winter", "Past the Mission" and "Cornflake Girl US" were the only ones not to be included).

The colors of a few shots were modified and transitions added, but that’s about it: there’s no new material included in this video. Tori explained in the audio commentary of the video on Fade to Red that when it was decided to release the remix as a single, she received a call from the label asking if she would mind them making a compilation of her videos. "I kind of thought that was a good idea, mainly because, you know, you certainly don’t want to literally do the lyrics to "Professional Widow" in a film format. So, this was really done by an editor that I think, you know, let’s face it, loved the song and Van Helden’s read."

Even though a lot of fans don’t really like van Helden’s remix, which is really different from the original version on the harpsichord, Tori was always proud of the remix and really liked the way the DJ put George Porter Jr. bass line (which you would have a hard time to hear in the album version) on the front of the mix. "So I was okay to take visuals that I thought were quite attached to the songs and the emotions that they were married to, and put to this variation on a theme. And I am a sucker for a good bass line," she concluded in the audio commentary.
