Comparative Lyrics

Star of Wonder

Tuesday 16 August 2011, by Cécile Desbrun

"Star of Wonder" from Tori’s seasonal record Midwinter Graces is based on the traditional 19th carol "We Three Kings" (also known as "We Three Kings of Orient Are"). As most of the carol covers on the album, Tori changed and added some of the lyrics.

Here, you can compare Tori’s version with the lyrics of the original carol.
For better appreciation, I used different colors.
Black: the lyrics are the same as the original carol
[orange fonce]Orange:[/orange fonce] The lyrics are a reformulation of the original carol (same meaning)
[rouge]Red:[/rouge] Tori’s additional lyrics

I reported these colours on "We Three Kings" lyrics as well. In this case, the lyrics in red are the ones that have been left out in Tori’s version.

Star of Wonder

We three kings [rouge]are coming again[/rouge]
Bearing gifts [rouge]from the east[/rouge]
[rouge]From the east[/rouge]

[rouge]Some say a star will rise again
in the hearts of humankind
Some say we have been in exile
What we need is solar fire

Star of wonder, star of [rouge]night[/rouge],
Star [orange fonce]of[/orange fonce] royal Beauty
Westward leading, still proceeding
[rouge]a star of wonder[/rouge]

[orange fonce]We bring Myrrh for him[/orange fonce]
[rouge]From the east[/rouge] [orange fonce]Frankincense[/orange fonce]
[rouge]From the east[/rouge]

Star of wonder, star of [rouge]night[/rouge],
Star [orange fonce]of[/orange fonce] royal Beauty
Westward leading, still proceeding
Star of wonder, star of [rouge]night[/rouge]
Star of royal beauty
Westward leading, still proceeding
[rouge]seeding a star of wonder[/rouge]

We Three Kings

We three kings[rouge] of Orient are[/rouge];
Bearing gifts [rouge]we traverse afar,[/rouge]
[rouge]Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.[/rouge]

O star of wonder, star of [rouge]light[/rouge],
Star [orange fonce]with[/orange fonce] royal beauty [rouge]bright[/rouge],
Westward leading, still proceeding,
[rouge]Guide us to thy perfect light.[/rouge]

[rouge]Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never,
Over us all to reign[/rouge]

[orange fonce]Frankincense to offer have I;[/orange fonce]
[rouge]Incense owns a Deity nigh;
Prayer and praising, voices raising,
Worshipping God on high.[/rouge]

[orange fonce]Myrrh[/orange fonce] [rouge]is mine, its bitter perfume[/rouge]
[rouge]Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone cold tomb.[/rouge]

[rouge]Glorious now behold Him arise;
King and God and sacrifice;
Alleluia, Alleluia,
Sounds through the earth and skies.[/rouge]
