Song Analysis

"Flavor" talks about religious intolerance and how each of the major organized religions claims its God is the only one, preaching hate instead of love. The Book of Earth reference ("In the book of Earth/Which God spread fear/spread love") implies we’re all human beings living on the same planet and that the Earth doesn’t care which religion people who walk her are. Tori encourages people to commune with Creation through nature and not institutions having a political agenda. The song shares a similar subject with “Strong Black Vine,” that precedes it on the record, but the tone and atmosphere of both songs are very different. While “SBV” was very fierce and angry, “Flavor” gives a serene outlook on the question.
