Like "Welcome to England," "Selkie" finds a woman leaving her world for her husband’s world, thus giving up a part of herself (in this case, her seal skin). And like in "Welcome to England," love allows the couple to overcome the difficulties born from the woman’s sacrifice.

« Selkie is a seal woman who has finally come back, deciding to find the man that she left a long time ago, but he wanted her to take her seal skin and put it in a cabinet and not go back to her seal life – that’s kind of an ancient myth of the selkies. And so she’s had to make the decision if she wants to be with him, these aren’t her waters and it’s not her shores and it’s not her world, but she’s left that to be with him. And I found that a romantic notion. » (Unrepentant Geraldines interview DVD)
